Arabian flavour signifies Turkish music and culture. But, European influence gives it a difference from other middle-eastern cultures and musics. It isn't as rigid in its rhythm as Bellydance music, and nor is it as contemplative as Sufi music.
Long stretches of improvisation and mood (always Turkish scales, not jazz), where instruments (percussion, clarinet, oud, violin etc...) enjoyably drift in and out of each other, inevitably find their way into distinctive rhythmic melodylines. You can hear each instrument's texture so clearly, thanks to great production and highest quality instruments -which are played amazingly well. This music is hypnotic because it just 'flows'.There's no sense of effort, despite it being virtuosic. It perfectly fits the Arabian fantasy-world imagery from films and stories, aswell as being authentic folk music.
For a Turkish cd that is back to back melodylines, "Gypsy Rum" and "Caravanserai" would be better choices. But for a cd that shares the catchy parts between long sequences of Turkish mood, this one is perfect.
I'm glad Burhan Ocal didn't keep this secret as well as the Sultan had intended to.

Arja Kastinen ~ Ani [2008]

"http://i97.photobucket.com/albums/l221/aussie450/kansi.jpg" grafik dosyası hatalı olduğu için gösterilemiyor.

All music by Arja Kastinen
with 15-, 14- and 10-string kanteles.

Arja Kastinen was the first Finnish folk musician to take the Doctor of Music examination in the artistic study programme at the Sibelius Academy in December 2000. Kastinen mixes the old and new playing techniques presenting the versatile timbres and acoustic properties of the kantele. The music is an experimental journey to the dim and distant past seeking to uphold tradition while creating new things.

The kantele is an ancient Finnish zither-like instrument. The oldest model - the five-string kantele - is estimated to be at least 2,000 years old. An almost similar instrument can also be found in the Baltic countries (Esthonian 'kannel', Latvian 'kuokles' and Lithuanian 'kankles'). Nowadays, there are several different types of kantele instruments in Finland: for example, 5-, 10- and 15-string kanteles, concert kanteles with 39 strings and electric kanteles.
The ancient kantele, like rune singing, was part of the old music culture that was still a living tradition in isolated Karelian villages at the end of the 19th century and even at the beginning of 20th century. In that culture music was an inseparable part of everyday life. Music was not made in separate pieces, as we understand them, but in an improvised flow of tones that described one's feelings or, for example, events in everyday life.

You know you're dying. You have to give birth to as much quality music as you possibly can, and the pressure and unknown time constraints are enough to kill you anyway. So what do you do? You do the only thing you can do, which is justify why music exists: you create a work of music that can live forever. The album is Innuendo. Queen was and is popular, but always deserved much more. This album manifests why. "The Show Must Go On" is one of the top 10 greatest songs ever written (in my book), if not the best, and it gives you an out of body experience. The opening title track reminds us why Queen (along with Bon Jovi) is the best rock band to ever exist. "Don't try so hard" makes me feel it was written just for me. "These are the Days of Our Lives" will make you cry. The video was the last captured footage of him, ever. Do music history a favor and buy this album.

Greatest Hits is a 1981 Queen compilation. The record, released on November 2, 1981, is the UK's all-time best-selling album.[1] Combined with Greatest Hits II, it became the definitive Queen compilation. While a domestic release with different tracks but the same cover art was available in the U.S. in 1981, the British release was available to United States customers only by import until the 1995 release of Greatest Hits I & II, which combined the two discs. The seventeen-track UK Greatest Hits disc was released in the U.S. on its own for the first time, with a few bonus tracks, in 2004 under the name Greatest Hits: We Will Rock You Edition

"Parachutes" is a really astonishing debut album from the British band Coldplay. "Parachutes" is best described as a mood piece--mellow, melodic, acoustic guitar, mopey at times but ultimately convinced that "Everything's Not Lost."

Coldplay's sound is a mixture of shimmering guitars, keyboards, and Chris Martin's incredible voice. His voice is probably the cause of the many Thom Yorke, Fran Healy and Jeff Buckley comparisons--like those three singers, he makes very effective use of his falsetto. His voice just crackles with real emotion. They have a great tendency to pair rhythm acoustic and lead electric guitars, which produces a very specificly textured and meshed sound.

All the tracks on the album are worth a listen. Highlights include the sublime "Shiver" (truly swoon-worthy), "Yellow" (simply romantic), "Trouble," and the last track, "Everything's Not Lost."

Highly recommended to fans of Travis's "The Man Who" and Radiohead's "The Bends." Coldplay shares a general musical aesthetic with those two bands, but they also have their own sound and musical project. Listen to the sound clips, and you'll see how Coldplay is both familiar and unique. You won't be wasting your money if you pick this album up.
